Hibernation

October 13, 2010

It’s been a beautiful summer…

It feels like nights on the lake at twilight and the sweet smell of flowers in my backyard were years ago.

& replacing them, the scent of freshly crushed autumn leaves and the sound of waterfalls…

…walks across campus with new friends

Views you wouldn’t believe,

opportunities I could never have imagined…

Along the way I had doubts. Could this hill be wrong for me?

I said I was a southern girl at heart, I thought the Carolinas were where I belonged.

I couldn’t imagine myself in New York for another autumn, another winter.

But something steered me away from my other choices.

And I chose Cornell

I arrived here.

& I fell in love with the sights, the sounds, the people

I can’t picture myself anywhere else.

~~~
OhhMay has brought me so much joy. This blog has developed my interests and clarified what I want to do with my talents, my education, and my life. I am so grateful I had the motivation to just keep writing post after post. The motivation to just keep thinking, just keep experimenting, just keep playing, and just keep clicking “publish.”
I will never give up this website, and I plan on resuming as soon as I can dedicate a fair amount of time to everything I put on here. I’m not the kind of person that will sacrifice quality in busy times.
So for now, OhhMay will hibernate. But I’m not done.
There are so many places I want to take this website and so many ideas I can’t wait to bring to fruition. Right now what I need to focus is taking full advantage of my first semester of college. I’ll know when I’m ready to throw the blog back into the mix.
Thank you so much if you’ve been reading this site.
Readers and comments are the greatest motivation in the world. They’re so encouraging and catalyze every post. Please stick around, I’ll be back. 🙂
Until next time,
Mae
    I don’t blame you one bit. Don’t miss a second of your first semester of college. I vividly remember my first semester over five years ago now and it was the best 4 months ever. Live it up to the fullest.
    I’m feeling exacty the same way. So glad you love Cornell. I could be blogging but it would be at the expense of meeting people, trying new activities, attending awesome seminars, etc. That’s just not healthy! It’s good to hear from you, but I think you’ve made the right choice by hibernating here and immersing yourself in that amazing world up in Ithaca. All my best wishes for this semester.
    Mae, I’ve read your blog off and on for a while now, so I’m a little late in posting this. I think it’s wonderful that you’re taking time off; take all the time you need to grow, to expand, to discover, to experience joy, disappointment, amazing friendships, challenging classes and all of the wide varieties of experiences college has to offer you. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss it! (and I’m even in graduate school for my MS!). Good luck with Chemistry and Biology, I don’t miss those days… although I do miss Biochemistry but shhh don’t tell anyone ! I don’t think most of my RD peers would approve 🙂 Food Science is the BEST and I still use the majority of things I learned in cooking for myself. Enjoy all that you’re doing and know that many great things lie ahead!
