    Hi May (Mae?)

I have been on a quest to learn to make Veggie Burgers from scratch. A little googling lead me to your black bean & chia seed veggie burgers.

I’ve never heard of Chia Seeds outside the commercial for Chia Pets, but I found myself buying a bag of these seeds and making the veggie burgers in your recipe. I forgot the lentils so I just used chick peas. Aside from that, it was the same recipe.

They were absolutely delicious! Thank you! I looked around your site a little more and I must admit, I find you absolutely fascinating! The thoroughness with which you blog about your life, your diet, your friends, your recipes, your interests… You really inspire me to want to do more of these things with my own life.

I have started a website for my drag persona, Honey LaBronx (see the web link above). On that website, I decided to start a cooking blog (only one entry so far) and eventually, I would like to start a cooking SHOW on the internet (even if I have a TINY little kitchen in Brooklyn)

    The things is this…

I am Vegan. I have been Vegan since November 12, 2009. Not a very long time (almost 9 months) but it has become a huge passion of mine. The more I learn about the issue, the more glad I am that I am no longer complicit in animal torture, animal confinement, animal exploitation… I just try to picture myself as a happy fish swimming in the ocean, only to get snagged in a net with all my friends and family, the pain of being pulled out of the water, and the slow torturous death of suffocation.

People rarely contemplate how much pain fish can feel – they have very intricate nervous systems and they feel pain very deeply. I don’t ever want to be the cause of that pain.

Animal agriculture is the number ONE cause of greenhouse gasses, causing global warming. Animal agriculture is the number ONE consumer of fossil fuels (oil). Because it takes 14 pounds of grain to produce just one pound of animal flesh, animal agriculture is also the number ONE cause of world hunger.

With so many reasons to embrace a compassionate, vegan diet, I wonder if you have considered making the change? You clearly have a passion for vegan food and I am simply amazed by how many vegan recipes you include in your blog. To be honest, I didn’t realize you weren’t a vegan, and so every time I encounter a recipe for Haddock or Buffalo Burgers, it comes as a big shock.

I would love to hear back from you and if you have any questions about Veganism, please let me know.

In the mean time, here are some resources I hop you will consider looking into (you can also find these same resources on my “Go Vegan!” page on the Honey LaBronx website)

Thanks for reading my message, and thanks again for the Veggie Burger recipe!
