Drum roll

February 13, 2010

Hey guys! Sorry for no post yesterday…life has been getting in the way!!

But, I have some fun news!

I was accepted to California Polytech State University!!

Will I be westward bound?

Will I fulfill the manifest destiny?

Will I rush for gold?

Will I fly across the country to join Ah-nold and his wife??

Will I stop making California references?

COME my tan-faced children,
Follow well in order, get your weapons ready,
Have you your pistols? have you your sharp-edged axes?
Pioneers! O pioneers!

O you youths, Western youths,
So impatient, full of action, full of manly pride and friendship,
Plain I see you Western youths, see you tramping with the foremost,
Pioneers! O pioneers!

-Walt Whitman*

or… Will I be a Lion, Tiger , or Bear (Oh my!)?

You’ll have to wait and see! Actually, the Clemson decision is supposed to come the week of the 15th and Cornell and NC State are both coming later (mid-late March)

(*I would be lying if I said I didn’t discover that poem after the Levi’s commercial. It’s really a wonderful poem though)

Announcement #2

Do you remember my New Year’s resolution to become a lifeguard? [Although I have a job, I want to be certified so I can work as a lifeguard when I go away to school]

Hahahaha seriously, Photoshop is too much fun.

Well tonight were the try-outs and I made it!! They actually were pretty easy. I was surprised when I was warming up to see my super awesome prom date/husband hop in the pool. He’s taking the class with me!

This week, the course is 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday (I’m on winter break from school). It’s a lot of work and really expensive ($350!) but I’m sure it will be worth it in the long run.

I energized with some Guayaki Yerba Mate (Pure Endurance) and put on my favorite good luck shirt:

I got this shirt for coming in 5th (?) at the league meet. That was a good day!

My bathing suit. 😛

I did really well! I learned to swim in March/April after my injury, so I was really nervous that I wouldn’t be ready for this class.

These past two days have been really awesome, and I’m excited for next week. I’m sorry if any part of this came across as boastful. I’m just really proud of myself today!

Two new reviews:

Kind PLUS: Almond & Cashew

Kind PLUS: Mango Macadamia

Any big plans for this weekend?

I’m selling peanut butter tomorrow, so if you’re in the region… 😉

I hope everyone had a great day!!

Congrats on the acceptance! I just have to add…I’m currently a senior at NC State and Raleigh born and bred, and I definitely think you should come here!

What wonderful news! It’s great to have options — not that I am a bit surprised to hear about this. Hooray for Mae! Celebrate!

That picture of you as a Baywatch guard = unbelievably funny.

Congratulations on being accepted! Being a native Californian…I have to say I love the west coast. 😀 The weather is great and the people are more relaxed than what I’ve recently been experiencing in the east. 😛 Good luck in your decision making process!

Yay, congratulations! I went to undergrad in northern California too, and I miss the area so much! San Luis Obispo is gorgeous and in such a great central location.

    May,

Congratulations on your accomplishments, you are quite a gal!

I was wondering which CalPoly you had applied to. My son is graduating from SLO at the end of this quarter. It is a wonderful area and a great school … so keep SLO in mind as you sift through the other acceptances that will come your way.

Congrats girl! Choosing a school can be tough but I bet you will make the right choice. 🙂 And I ALWAYS wanted to be a lifeguard so badly!! Didn’t live around water, and the pools were crappy here. I’ll live vicariously through you. 🙂

Thank you Jessica!! ahahah and I’ll live vicariously through you (and pretend I’m a gorgeous blond with amazing cooking and baking skills, plus plenty of creativity to boot!!!!)

Congrats on the two big announcements! Choosing a school is tough, but you seem to be pretty smart about it 🙂 Good luck with your last two schools! The lifeguarding thing sounds cool, too. Sounds like you’ll have a busy week at the pool!

Wow, college choices can be a difficult decision. Great great news though Mae. 🙂

I wish I were in the region! The Saratoga peanut butter flavors look delicious.
    Congratulations on Polytech!

  11. February 13, 2010 9:58 pm

    AWW congrats girl!!!! So exciting!!

Haha prom date/husband?! Oh, do tell. 😉 That’s really cool that he’s taking the class with you!! I’d love to start swimming but the closest pool is at the YMCA about 25 mins away.. not very convenient.
This weekend.. well I actually have a *cough* date *cough* for Valentine’s Day. Not too sure about it buuut what the heck..

    • February 14, 2010 4:20 am

My pool is 30 minutes away. It is a really big pain, but I’m used to it now! Haha my prom date and I married on Halloween this year (I was a mail order bride. ;-))
Have an awesome V-day date night!!!! How exciting!

  12. February 13, 2010 10:36 pm

How wonderful, honey!! CONGRATS.. the best is yet to come.. so happy for ya 🙂

    Happy weekend!

I have been eating KIND bars for years, long since they’ve been popular, and I love that you can bite into huge chunks of nuts 🙂 Also, congratulations on the acceptance! This part of senior year makes the stress of the previous semester totally worth it, right? Also, you’ll make that $350 back really quick once you start working. Lifeguards are always in demand, so you’ll be one step ahead of everyone else when you get to school; plus, you won’t have to sit behind a desk in the library or stock shelves in the school bookstore. I hope that moving into a dorm room doesn’t stifle your cooking creativity, though. Mine definitely took a hiatus when I lived on campus 😦

Thanks Brunette! THat makes me feel a lot better!
As far as cooking creativity, I’m majoring in food science so *hopefully* I’ll be able to infuse some of my creativity into my classes or food science club. We’ll see!

(If not, I’ll probably drive my room mate mad blowing up the microwave!!)

  14. February 14, 2010 12:28 am

YAY Mae!! So happy for you!! 🙂 You have so much to be proud of! 😉

  15. February 14, 2010 3:21 am

Congrats, Mae!! How exciting!!!! Oh, I remember those days… I’m excited to hear where you’ll attend. Any of those schools would be lucky to have you 🙂

Congrats on the lifeguarding as well! This is a good day for you 🙂

  16. February 14, 2010 4:23 am

Thank you Em, Jessie, Abby, Michal, Nut Jar, and Gabriella!!!

  17. February 14, 2010 7:04 am

Congrats on your acceptance!! Don’t let it deter you from your Clemson dreams though! 😉

I was a lifeguard for 5 years. I’m not such an amazing swimmer, and I passed my certification easily. Interestingly, my non-amazing swimmer self taught swimming lessons! Mostly to beginning swimmers though. FYI- that’s where you make all the money-not lifeguarding!

  18. February 16, 2010 12:38 am

If you come to Clemson, we could have lunch 😉 I could even by your English 103 teacher! Haha 😀

    Congrats on the acceptance.
